Montefiore Ranks Among America's Best Hospitals: 2010 -2011

Montefiore Medical Center continues to garner national recognition with its ranking in U.S.News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" for 2010-2011. U.S.News highlights three Montefiore specialties - Diabetes and Endocrinology, Geriatrics and Neurology and Neurosurgery.

U.S.News evaluated almost 5,000 hospitals across the country, but only 152 achieved recognition in a specialty area. The results are based on quality care outcomes and physician survey results, reflecting Montefiore's exceptional performance in key specialties.

The annual publication of U.S. News rankings is intended to create awareness among consumers about which hospitals provide the best care for complex medical conditions and procedures. Results are determined by surveying patients, physicians and other industry professionals. Evaluations consider categories such as patient safety, volume, technology and other measures of patient care.

Taking the Lead in Accountable Care

Montefiore Medical Center is featured in the lead story in U.S.News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" issue for 2010-2011.  The article highlights how Montefiore is "pioneering a new model of healthcare delivery, endorsed by the architects of health reform, that promises to radically change the current fragmented delivery system."

Montefiore, and several other top healthcare systems around the country, are taking the lead in becoming Accountable Care Organizations - institutions implementing innovative models of care management to improve patient outcomes and increase efficiencies. Montefiore's House Call Program, noted in the story, is one such initiative that coordinates care for frail seniors who may not visit their primary care doctor or seek other medical services. Teams of geriatricians and nurse practitioners visit patients to help them stay healthy and avoid unnecessary emergency room visits and hospital readmissions.
