The first baby of 2010 in the Bronx was born at Montefiore's Weiler Division at 12:34 am on Jan. 1. His name is Timothy Weatherly and he is shown with mom Maria Fontanez of the Bronx and family and nursing staff. It is the second year in a row that the first baby of the year was born at Montefiore. Each year, approximately 6,000 babies are born at Montefiore's Weiler and North Divisions.
Montefiore's physicians and staff have won national and international acclaim for their work to improve the health and well-being of women and infants. For more than four decades, the medical team at Montefiore has been at the forefront of women's healthcare nationwide, developing new techniques in infertility treatment, high-risk pregnancy evaluation, prenatal diagnosis, ovarian and gynecologic cancer therapy and genetic screening.
In addition to obstetrician/gynecologists, certified nurse midwives (CNM), and scientists and nurses conducting research, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Women's Health also operates many community programs designed to improve the lives and health of women and children.
